Why “88 Oaks”?

230 years ago history was made right here over a few drinks, dishes, and good ol southern hospitality. This land is the original location of Isaac Hunter’s Tavern and the establishment of Raleigh in 1788 as North Carolina’s capital city. When establishing the location for the capital, the gentlemen decreed that the official seat should be established no more than 10 miles from Hunter’s Tavern. That decree was carried through and as the crow flies, we are less than 5 miles from the middle of downtown Raleigh.

Hunter’s tavern was a gathering place along the main roads and all travelers stopped in to rest and share ideas, time and a few or more than a few drinks.

We commemorate that spirit of gathering, sharing and producing at 88 Oaks. We offer a chef driven menu that is centered around local and fresh ingredients prepared with balance and care and plenty of craft beers and cocktails for the lubrication of great discussions!

The Menu

Southern Authenticity, Local Ingredients, Modern Flair.

The 88 Oaks menu is inspired by the history and culture of our NC community. We only use fresh ingredients from as many local farms as possible. In our cooking we also utilize 7 different types of vinegars to infuse authentic tastes of the region into dishes that are well balanced and refreshing and pay homage to traditional tastes of the region.
